Hello! Well it has been WAY to long since I last used this blog. I was in a little dilemma, I am no longer working under a big top, so it didn't seem right to keep using this blog! But circus is still my life, so this blog can still be justified. A lot has changed since the beginning of 2013. I decided to leave Cirque du Soleil in pursuit of a different life of circus. I grew tired of doing a gymnastics act everyday, and while I am very thankful for all of the experiences Cirque du Soleil gave me, I wanted to dip my toes into the world of European circus! So here I am, in Belgium, still a long way from home, and along way from the world of 'Amaluna', soaking up brand new experiences and a brand new style of circus! I have been training hard since April, with my three wonderful partners Thomas, Jasper and Richard. We do Russian bar, and we have a show called "Dynamite and Poetry", all under the company name "15ft6". Russian bar is the most amazing discipline I have ever done, I haven't loved doing anything else so much! The 'bar' is made up of three pole vaulting poles, all bolted together and padded so it is like a bendy gymnastics beam that two people hold on their shoulders, while the flyer (me) jumps in the middle. You go very high, it is incredibly fun to perform! I have also been concentrating a lot on aerial hoop, I have my first solo act next week, I am nervous! Aerial hoop is a challenging discipline, it is painful and it spins fast, making it difficult to manoeuvre. It takes a lot of training and perseverance, it is a discipline I think you really have to love to excel in, as the pain sucks!!
Currently our company is performing in Belgium, as it is a Flemish company. The show is very, very new (yesterday was our first Russian bar show ever), but we have big plans for it, and already we have generated a very positive response. The tour of "15ft6" will officially begin next year, for the rest of this year we are performing in smaller festivals, to gain experience and just practice performing the fast paced show. I shall keep my blog updated with our happenings!
